Anderson/Luers outlast
Iverson/Flyger for WIF Championship
Anderson/Luers had their
closest call of the year, but scored five unearned runs and capitalized on every
opportunity to hold off Iverson/Flyger 14-12 and claim the Parker Knox Championship Trophy
in the first ever WIF title game.
Earlier in the night, Fisher/Fossen had stayed in the AL
Championship for a while, but they amassed only 10 hits to AL's 19 in an 11-4 defeat.
Iverson/Flyger showed again they are the comeback kids, scoring two in the bottom of the
6th and held off Hall/Tobin 8-7.

All top seeds advance in playoffs
Anderson/Luers blew
out Hight/Friez to start the night. Then three games that came down to the last at bat saw
the three higher seeded teams, Iverson/Flyger, Fisher/Fossen and Hall/Tobin, all advance
to the league championship games.
Thursday night will be the championship night, as the two league
championships begin at 6 p.m., then the title game takes place at 7:30. Here's a complete
look at Thursday's WIF Championship night, culminating in the presentation of the Parker
Knox WIF Championship Trophy.

Playoffs start Tuesday
Chris Iverson and
Tyler Merriam combined to take every award a senior guy could take, and they collide at
6:45 in the NL's 1 vs. 4 game. Anderson/Luers looks to defend is undefeated streak as the
favorites take on hapless Hight/Friez. Fisher/Fossen must avoid a let down against
Williams/Simon. And in the nightcap is the most intriguing matchup. Hall/Tobin came from
behind to defeat Kern/Tillman in the regular season, and despite the fact that both teams
are 3-3 and HT has the higher seed, the polls have Kern/Tillman ahead. It's a big night
for the Wiffleball Intramural Federation, action starts at 6 p.m. in the Riggs High Gym.

Anderson, Merriam, Iverson take multiple awards
The end of the year
WIF awards were voted on by members of the Riggs Intramural Alliance, and the captain of
the undefeated Anderson/Luers, Pat Anderson, cleaned up. Anderson was voted MVP of both
the entire WIF and the American League, along with receiving Male Captain of the Year,
Senior of the Year, and Best Hitter for the AL.
Tyler Merriam, who was an umpire the first night, took home four
awards as well: National League Senior of the Year, Best Hitter and Best Fielder for the
NL, and the Inspiration Award.
The Inspiration Award was added to honor a player from each
league who left an indeliable mark on WIF. Merriam and Brian Pope received those awards
for their respective awards.
Chris Iverson was the only other player to take home multiple
awards, getting NL MVP and NL Male Captain of the Year. Here is a complete run down of the
awards.

Anderson/Luers top final RIA WIF
poll
For the final time
this year, the Riggs Intramural Alliance voted the top eight teams in the Wiffleball
Intramural Federation, and to no suprise undefeated Anderson/Luers took the No. 1 spot. AL
took all eight top votes for the second straight week. Fisher/Fossen, with their win over
Iverson/Flyger, edged out IF for the No. 2 spot. Kern/Tillman then received No. 4 by two
points over Hall/Tobin, who beat KT in their regular season matchup.
Anderson/Luers survive
scare, Fisher/Fossen get big win on final Tuesday of season
Top-ranked
Anderson/Luers needed a furious comeback to stay undefeated and prove they could win under
adversity, winning in the final inning 25-21 over No. 7 Johnson/Wilbur. Then No. 3
Fisher/Fossen ended their two-game skid and Iverson/Flyger's four-game winning streak with
a 9-8 win to wrap up WIF regular season play.
Hall/Tobin and Kern/Tillman each had to overcome adversity to
pull out close wins over overmatched opponents, and the squads will meet in the playoffs
this Tuesday.
Also decided on Tuesday was the final pairings for the Wiffleball
Intramural Federation postseason, to be released later on tonight, with official times and
pairings.
Playoff matchups finalized, No. 2 meets No. 3 on
last night of regular season
The final positions
in the National League playoffs, and a potential title game preview take place this
Tuesday night as the first regular season in Wiffleball Intramural Federation history
comes to an end in the Riggs High Gym.
Iverson/Flyger, who nearly forced the first tie in the RIA WIF
poll's illustrious history, are ranked No. 2 and they meet No. 3 Fisher/Fossen in prime
time, first pitch scheduled at 8:15.
Before that, the final placements in the Wiffleball Intramural
Federation Playoffs will be decided as well. Hall/Tobin takes on Williams/Simon at 6 p.m.,
and then Kern/Tillman meets Hight/Friez at 6:45 p.m. KT and HT are currently tied for the
No. 2 spot in the National League, with HT's come-from-behind upset last week of
Kern/Tillman providing the tiebreaking advantage to them.
Johnson/Wilbur, who has the task of top-ranked Anderson/Luers at
7:30, would need to pull off the greatest upset in the new millenium and has both
Hall/Tobin and Kern/Tillman lose to force a three-way tie. That's the only way they could
get out of the NL cellar. If only one of the two squads lose and JW wins, then JW remains
fourth because they lost all three of their NL contests.
CHECK THIS OUT: Johnson/Wilbur are on the verge of shattering
every offensive mark in the WIF recordbook. The key is, its their opponents that are doing
it. After No. 2 Iverson/Flyger won the biggest blowout in the rich history of the
Wiffleball Intramural Federation, they take on top-ranked Anderson/Luers. Currently, team
AL is ranked second in four of the seven WIF offensive categories, trailing only
Iverson/Flyger due to their 43-5 win over JW. So what's ahead after the AL game....More
than likely, a first round meeting with Iverson/Flyger. The fact that the games only go
seven innings may be all that stop these games from hitting the century mark in runs
scored.
Anderson/Luers narrowly hold top
spot in poll
Iverson/Flyger ripped apart the WIF
record books this past Tuesday night, and despite the fact that Anderson/Luers claimed the
Game of the Century, they barely hung on over Iverson/Flyger to the top spot in the Riggs
Intramural Alliance WIF Poll.
Of the eight members of the RIA that were polled this week, five
ranked AL first, three put IF first. Neither team was ranked below second in any poll.
Anderson/Luers, with the extra top vote, scored 61 of a possible 64 points, Iverson/Flyger
59.
Fisher/Fossen has lost two straight, but they still hang on to
the No. 3 spot in the poll by virtue that they are the only other squad above .500.
Kern/Tillman had held the No. 4 spot going into last week, but Hall/Tobin upset them.
However, some pollsters were not impressed with KT, others felt
the same of HT, so the two tied for fourth. Williams/Simon, Johnson/Wilbur and Hight/Friez
round out this week's poll.
