1ST ROUND OF WIF PLAYOFFS

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Anderson/Luers 32, Hight/Friez 12
Top-seeded Anderson/Luers used 38 hits, 10 of which were home runs, as they clobbered Hight/Friez 32-12 to advance to the AL Championship Game Thursday night. Chris Mangan and Harry Decker each went 6-for-6 for AL, who remains undefeated going into the final night of WIF play. George Summerside had five hits, including two homers, and Pat Anderson, Eric Titze, Zane Erickson and Lindsey Luers each had four hits for the winners. For Hight/Friez, Kyle Tobin ahd five hits including a three run homer, and AJ Rounds had four hits including a home run.

Fisher/Fossen 14, Williams/Simon 13
Fisher/Fossen fought off a rally attempt and hung on to eliminate Williams/Simon from the playoffs, a 14-13 win for Trevor Fisher and Becca Fossen's squad. WS got the ball rolling in the top of the first, as ever batter reached base and six runs came across. FF's Brett Ripley hit a two-run homer to narrow the margin to 6-2 after one. Mike Snyder's two-run homer helped increase the WS lead to 9-2, Brady Schnabel's second inning solo shot made it 9-3. Schnabel struck again in the third, his two-run home run capped off a six-run third to tie the game at nine apiece. After a Nathan Paul single, Tyler Bonnett's two-run home run had the underdogs ahead going to the bottom of the fifth, where FF took control. Brian Pope started off the frame with a double, and after a Laura Winter single Schnabel singled him in. With two outs, Brian Hylle's two-run single put FF ahead 12-11. Fisher later added two more runs on a single of his own, a 14-11 advantage that, despite antoher two-run blast by Bonnett, was never relinquished. Fisher, Schnabel and Winter all had three hits for Fisher/Fossen, who in a rematch of the Game of the Century meet Anderson/Luers Thursday night for the AL crown. For the losers, Bonnett, Chad Jungman, Mike Snyder, Justin Williams and Paul each had three hits.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Iverson/Flyger 20, Johnson/Wilbur 15
Iverson/Flyger used a huge first two innings to build themselves a 13-6 lead, and they were able to fight off Johnson/Wilbur to get to the NL title game with a 20-15 win Tuesday night. Ashley Dunwoody's two-run triple capped a seven-run bottom of the first, and JW was down 7-2. Joseph Kean's two-run second inning blast, then Joe Riis' grand slam gave JW an 8-7 lead that lasted for all of four batters, when Shawn Ludemann returned the favor for IF with a grand slam of his own. IF took a 13-6 lead, which was cut to one in the top of the 3rd with two-run homers by Dan Johnson and Riis. With the game appearing to be won by the team with the most at bats, Kade Anderson's inning ender to start the bottom of the third appeared to give new life to JW. However, JW couldn't get a run home. The IF fourth saw a three-run bomb from Shawn Ludemann, then a solo blast by Sheridan Cronin and IF was out to a 19-13 advantage. Riis homered for the fourth time in as many at bats in the fifth to cut the lead to 20-15, but it was over by that point. Riis' bid to set a WIF record five homers was cut short by the rafters over left field, for the last out. Shawn Ludemann, Chris Iverson and James Berreth each had four hits for IF, who advance to the National League Championship Game Thursday night. Riis was 4-for-5 with four homers, and Nate Chappelle had four hits.

Hall/Tobin 13, Kern/Tillman 12
Hall/Tobin used a nine-run 4th inning and some fine defense to preserve a 13-12 victory over Kern/Tillman in the final first round playoff game of Tuesday night. Greg Barringer's three-run blast followed by Kevin Hall's leadoff inning ender started the game off with a bang. Miranda Townsend homered, and KT led 4-0 after two. Jared Lindbloom split the margin with a two-run shot off the white monster in the third. In the fourth inning, KT appeared to take control. With two outs, Drew Johnson, Seth Waitman, Allen Goodman, Barringer and Jake Mortenson all singled, the last three scoring runs, and then Mikal Kern tripled in another run, and KT took a 9-2 lead. However, HT responded, as Kyle Villa and Kevin Hall led off with back-to-back solo home runs. Five straight singles, then Lindbloom struck again with a three-run blast, and Brock Heying added a two-runner. Nine runs on ten hits, and Hall/Tobin took an 11-9 advantage. Zach Parsons added on a two-run homer and a 13-9 lead after six innings. In the seventh, KT showed they wouldn't die easy. Captains Kern and Sara Tillman singled, then Jon Huft's three-run shot got KT within one with nobody out. Townsend singled in between two outs, and the Seth Waitman doubled, Townsend forced to hold at third with Goodman, 4-for-4 to that point, at the plate. Goodman hit a low line shot to left center field, but Dustin Bonnett's sliding catch near the wall saved the win for Hall/Tobin. Lindbloom was 3-for-3 with two homers, and Bonnett was also 3-for-3 to aid the winners. For the losers, Goodman ended 4-for-5 and Kern and Waitman each had three hits. Hall/Tobin meets Iverson/Flyger for the NL title Thursday.
