WIF GAME RESULTS -- OCTOBER 29, 2002

INTERLEAGUE PLAY
Kern/Tillman 25, Fisher/Fossen 10
The No. 1 team in WIF was defeated...badly. Mikal Kern started off the night with a solo home run, and a five-run inning followed. With Fisher/Fossen down 5-1 after one, Kern/Tillman turned it up again. In the top of the 2nd, Kern homered again to lead it off, and after a Seth Waitman double and back-to-back errors, two hits, and another error, Emily Goeden hit a line shot just over the outstretched hand of Trevor Fisher. The ball was above the green line, and KT led 12-1 after an inning. Trevor Fisher's squad got it to 15-5 after three, but that's as close as they would come, as No. 5 Kern/Tillman dominated. For Kern/Tillman, Kern was 4-for-6 with 3 RBI, including two solo homers. Seth Waitman was 5-for-5, with a WIF record three doubles. Greg Barringer added a homer, and was 4-for-4. For the losers, only Andrew Berreth, Brett Ripley and William Coolidge had multiple hits (2 each.) In fact, FF's 13 hits was the low of the night.

Johnson/Wilbur 18, Williams/Simon 16
The last team to claim their first win in WIF play did so as Johnson/Wilbur won the most exciting game of the night, 18-16. In the bottom of the 7th, trailing 16-14, captain Dan Johnson cut the margin to one on a home run. With one out, Nate Chapelle and Jason Rodgers each struck singles, setting the stage for Joseph Kean. Kean was only a lifetime .250 hitter before this at bat, and his high flyball to left was good for a three-run homer, and hte ball game. Both teams are now 1-3. Williams/Simon's Brandon Tedford had a big early game, hitting two homers, including a grand slam, ending 3-for-4. Adam Johnson, Jordan Bordewyk and Tyler Bonnett all went 3-for-4, and Beth Cruse was 3-for-3. For JW, Devin O'Day and Tyler Merriam both remain at 1.000, as each went 4-for-4, Merriam with a double and 3 RBI. Dan Johnson was also 4-for-4, with two home runs and 4 runs batted in.Joe Riis, Joe Prieksat, Chapelle and Rodgers each had three hits for the squad who had a night-high with 30 hits.

Anderson/Luers 12, Hall/Tobin 8
There was upset in the air for this contest, and Hall/Tobin had a shot. In fact, when Colin Brown came up in the Bottom of the 4th, two Hall/Tobin runners were aboard and AL led 6-3. Brown hit a monster shot to left-center, that appeared sure to tie the game. However the ball hit the backboard and bounced back into play, where it was caught for an out.  Then Anderson/Luers scored five runs in the Top of the 5th, an 11-3 lead that was cut to 11-8, but a 1-2-3 Hall/Tobin 7th ended the upset hopes. Now the only undefeated is AL, who sit at 4-0. However, they take on Fisher/Fossen next week in what promises to be a big matchup. More importantly, a Fisher/Fossen win puts them top seed in the AL playoffs. AL, who rarely leave runners on base, couldn't get runners on for much of the game. The squad had six home runs, but only Anderson's three-run bomb was with anyone on base. Eric Titze was 3-for-4 with a double, and Chae Blair was 3-for-3 with a homer and a double. Anderson was 2-for-4, but both hits were homers and he had 4 RBI. For Hall/Tobin, Dustin Bonnett drove in three runs and had two doubles, Jared Lindbloom was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI singles, and Lucas Jeanotte was 2-for-2 with an RBI double.

Iverson/Flyger 26, Hight/Friez 12
Chris Iverson and Steph Flyger's squad batted through their order three times, producing 29 hits, all but seven singles, as IF continues to look impressive with a 26-12 thumping of Hight/Friez. Captan Iverson, the left handed batter, ended up 3-for-5 with 6 RBI. However, Iverson hit two moon shots to right that were stopped by the air system ducts in the gym, costing him another two homers and another 5 RBI. Iverson did have a 3-run homer. Jory Drayer and Shawn Ludemann were each 5-for-5, Ludemann with a 3-run homer and a double. Ashley Dunwoody and Sheridan Cronin each had three hits, as did Kade Anderson, and every player reached base for Iverson/Flyger, who improve to 3-1. For Hight/Friez, Tyson Paxton was 3-for-3 with 2 home runs, three- and two-run shots. Casey Templeton had a grand slam and a solo shot as well for HF, who drop to 1-3.
