WIF GAME RESULTS -- OCTOBER 8, 2002
Iverson/Flyger 6, Kern/Tillman 5
Jake Mortenson kicked off WIF properly, hitting the first home run in the
new league's history, putting KT on top, but top-ranked IF was able to hang on to a 6-5
win. IF put up five in the first two innings, with captain Chris Iverson going 2-for-3
with 3 runs batted in. Iverson/Flyger led 6-3 heading to the top of the 6th, only three
outs left for Kern/Tillman. Seth Waitman and Mortenson each had hits, but it wasn't
enough.

Fisher/Fossen 11, Hight/Friez 10 (7 Innings)
Call 'em the comeback kids, but Trevor Fisher and Becca Fossen's squad
hopped up 3-0, but trailed 5-3 after two, and had to claw throughout the game. In the
bottom of five, game tied at five, Fisher led off, and hit a ball that caught in the net
divider of the gym, hanging high above the floor, automatically ending the inning. The
sixth came around, and FF trailed 9-5. But they clawed back and forced extra innings, a
first in WIF history. HF got one on the board in the top half of the seventh, but Fisher
and Fossen got on, and Brett Ripley drove both in to win the game. In another dubious
note, Chris Mangan became the first man to strike out in WIF history.

Anderson/Luers 18, Williams/Simon 3
Second-ranked Anderson/Luers proved that, indeed, baseball players are
tough to beat. No other WIF team hops it "around-the-horn," and they dominated
from start to finish, scoring eight in the second and never looking back. Every player had
at least two hitts for AL, while Williams/Simon struggled for anything offensively,
scoring all three in the second. Geryd Erbele became the first man in WIF history with
multiple strikeouts, having two "Ks" on the night.

Fisher/Fossen 6, Hall/Tobin 5
The highly-touted game of the night didn't disappoint. FF jumped out early 1-0, and
put two more on in the top of the third. Hall/Tobin responded though with seven of nine
third inning batters getting hits, and taking a 4-3 lead they made 5-3 after four. FF tied
it in the fifth, and Trevor Fisher's home run to left-center gave FF the 6-5 win and a 2-0
record. Hall/Tobin fell to 1-1.

Williams/Simon 14, Iverson/Flyger 9
After second-ranked Anderson/Luers dominated WS, No. 1 Iverson/Flyger dug
themselves a huge hole and couldn't get out, losing 14-9. Williams/Simon put up four runs
in the first inning, and eight in the second, a 12-1 deficit. IF got six hits in the final
two innings, scoring five, but failed to get out of their hole. When the new polls are
conducted this week, there will likely be a change at the top. WS and IF are now both 1-1.

Anderson/Luers 8, Kern/Tillman 7
WIF has true parity. Williams/Simon threw that curveball, and now
Kern/Tillman, who lost to Iverson/Flyger by one, did the same to Anderson/Luers. KT got
ahead 3-1 after two, but five AL runs in the third, and two more in the fifth, put
Anderson/Luers ahead 8-5. Kern/Tillman got within one, and with two outs and the tying run
at third, Allen Goodman's grounder hit a KT runner, causing the third out and stopping the
game, an 8-7 AL escape, to reamin undefeated. Jake Mortenson set a new WIF record with
three homers in the game, but still came out on the short end.

Johnson/Wilbur. HF got ahead early 5-2, and kept the margin there, breaking it open in the
bottom of the fourth with nine runs, an 18-10 lead. JW fought back, and took a 19-18 lead
after 5 1/2, but Lucas Oehlerking singled in two in the bottom of the sixth to win the
ballgame 20-19.
